Catherine Spafford

Catherine believes that the best results are achieved when her clients are empowered with the knowledge necessary to make their own choices, rather than leaving important decisions about their children, finances and future in the hands of a judge.

Where settlement is not possible, Catherine is an experienced litigator, having represented clients in the Alberta Court of Justice, Court of King’s Bench and Court of Appeal, as well as in mediations and arbitrations. Catherine has successfully argued applications and/or run trials relating to custody, access, child support, spousal support, grandparent contact, guardianship rights, termination of guardianship, adoption, enforcement of arbitration awards, imputation of income and division of property, including corporate assets. She also drafts and provides independent legal advice on separation agreements, pre-nuptial agreements, post-nuptial agreements and assisted reproduction contracts.

In addition to her work as a litigator, Catherine is a Registered Collaborative Family Lawyer, Mediator and Arbitrator.

Catherine graduated from University of Calgary’s Faculty of Law in 2010 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2011. Following her articling year, Catherine practiced with a family law firm in Toronto specializing in divorces with complex property issues and high net-worth individuals. Catherine was called to the Alberta Bar in 2013 and has practiced family law in Edmonton ever since.
